Osoyoos Surface Water Treatment Pilot Project
Community Circle, in collaboration with Carollo Engineers and Veolia Water Technologies, is conducting a surface water treatment pilot study for the Town of Osoyoos, British Columbia. This initiative builds on previous groundwater pilot testing to evaluate the optimal long-term drinking water solution for the community.
About Project
Project Overview
Community Circle, in collaboration with Carollo Engineers (Lead) and Veolia Water Technologies, is conducting a surface water treatment pilot study for theTown of Osoyoos, British Columbia. This initiative builds on previous groundwater pilot testing to evaluate the optimal long-term drinking water solution for the community.
The Challenge
The Town of Osoyoos currently relies on groundwater wells that face capacity constraints and water quality challenges, including elevated levels of manganese, ammonia, and organic compounds. With projected water demands expected to reach 32 million liters per day by 2050, the community needs a sustainable, high-quality water source to meet future needs.
Approach
The pilot project will test a comprehensive surface water treatment system drawing from Osoyoos Lake, featuring:
- Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Clarification – to remove turbidity, organics, and seasonal algae
- Granular Media Filtration – for additional particle removal
- UV and Chlorine Disinfection – providing multi-barrier pathogen protection
- Real-time Water Quality Monitoring – to optimize treatment performance

Expected Outcomes
This pilot will provide critical operational data to:
- Validate the proposed surface water treatment approach
- Optimize treatment processes for local water quality conditions
- Inform final design specifications for the full-scale facility
- Ensure reliable, safe drinking water for Osoyoos through 2050 and beyond
Why It Matters
Access to clean, reliable drinking water is fundamental to community health and economic development. This project ensures that Osoyoos can sustainably meet the needs of its growing population while maintaining the highest water quality standards set by provincial and federal guidelines.
